About Me

A Little More About Me

Before becoming fully licensed as a Professional Counselor, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish from Loyola University in New Orleans and a Master’s in Counselor Education (M.Ed) from the University of Texas at Austin.  I have been working in the field of mental health and counseling in the Houston area for over 10 years.

Prior to starting my private practice, I worked for The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (formerly MHMRA of Harris County) where I was given the opportunity to work with individuals in under-served populations dealing with depression, anxiety, and other forms of serious mental illness.  Other professional experiences include several years volunteering at Bo’s Place where I facilitated groups for bereaved spouses and partners; assessment, individual and group counseling at The Council on Recovery; and career exploration and coaching at the Career Counseling Center at Texas State University.

I believe very strongly in the importance of continuing my education and refining my skills and expertise.  I learn a lot from being a member of the American Counseling Association, Postpartum Support International, and the Houston LPC Association.  I am also currently working towards becoming a Certified Becoming Us Facilitator and and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider.

My passion for guiding and supporting new parents through their transition into parenthood is born from my own experiences of becoming a mother.  There is no other life transition that quite compares to that of becoming a parent.  While there are many beautiful stories to be shared around this transition, there are also stories of pain, loneliness, shame, guilt, fear, and inadequacy.  I am driven by the desire to not let anyone keep these stories to themselves because it is only when the stories are shared that they lose their power over us.
